"Through my own journeys of learning, these words came to me with the powerful and recurring realization that we are not commonly taught the fundamental art of respect for, and acceptance of, our unique selves and all that we possess. In my heart, I believe that if we were to embrace and practice this art, not only could we be well with ourselves, but it might be infinitely easier to appreciate, acknowledge, and keep peace with those around us as well...."

The Gift of Being

can listen to me even when no one else seems to hear. My inner voice is always there, ready to guide me. What I need to remain true to myself is no less important than what those around me may demand. Having taken the time to look around me, my thoughts and opinions are rational, practical, and insightful, and therefore meaningful. Likewise, my emotions and responses come from my sensitive and sensible spirit's reaction to my experiences. It is up to me to study them. This does not make me selfish, for it is when I stop looking that I may stumble. Therefore I strive to keep an open heart.

have shown my thoughtfulness and capabilities time and again, and more so in extraordinarily difficult and challenging times. Therefore no proof is needed to the outside ~ I may fully savour my own worthiness. I have come away from many hard times richer and more enlightened. I realize and appreciate the value of the lessons in my life, and I will not give these up, though I may build on them. I value the open spirit in us all but cannot teach another what they do not wish to learn. Likewise, my best gifts are mine alone to give freely and cannot be taken from me.

realize that I may suffer greatly by succumbing to pressure, stress, sorrow, and anger if I do not take the care of myself that I require ~ physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually ~ for my body, heart, mind and soul are all parts of me. I can give more of myself to this life from a full cup.

t is up to me to recognize my ever-changing limits. I may not set them for others, but I can, guided by inner wisdom, set boundaries for how far I will travel to their side. They may not establish limits for me. It is up to me through my own careful contemplations, to assess the things that I can make manifest towards a positive outcome. It is ever up to me to treasure and make the best use of these precious resources within me. It is also up to me to make peace with the things that I cannot change.

may be alone for a time, yet not feel lonely ~ for loneliness can often be the love of myself that has yet to be fulfilled. For this reason I am gentle with myself. I can ask for help without feeling shame, knowing that another's insight and encouragement can lead me to uncover my own wisdom and strength, though it may never replace it. So possessing my own brand of wisdom and strength, it is up to me to rely on and use these gifts well. I will not sacrifice these cherished parts of myself to anyone, especially those who cannot or will not appreciate them as I do.

choose not to waste the essence of my spirit, for I value it greatly as a gift from the Creator. Though I value it in all others as well, I know that it is up to them, as it is up to me, to nourish and care for this gift that is their very being.

think, feel, and pray everyday. I pay heed and so it is that I learn, knowing that dark times and mistakes are indeed the greatest teachers. Learning each day, therefore I shall keep peace with myself. The past is for lessons, the future is for hope ~ today is mine. I will spend it wisely, and I am grateful.
